Shamar Shield was created out of a simple but urgent reality: houses of worship face growing threats, and many are not fully prepared to respond.

Our journey began in 2017 as Gunpowder & Lead Defense Company, a firearms training organization committed to responsible and professional instruction. Since then, we have trained more than 1,500 students in firearms safety and defensive skills.

In 2022, a house of worship approached us with a serious concern: how to address the rising threat of mass violence. In response, we developed a two-day training program focused on countering the mass shooter threat, which included firearms instruction and response tactics.

But after delivering that training, we realized something important.

Two days was not enough.

A house of worship faces many possible emergencies; far more than a single type of threat. Effective protection requires not only trained individuals but prepared leaders, coordinated teams, clear policies, and the ability to remain calm under pressure.

So we went back to work.

Our goal was to build a program that would do more than teach tactics. We wanted to create a structured, comprehensive system that would help churches develop real preparedness while also providing documented training that satisfies risk management expectations and insurance requirements.

In 2023, that work became Shamar Shield.

Shamar Shield is a specialized preparedness and leadership training program designed specifically for houses of worship. It equips leadership teams, safety teams, and volunteers with the tools they need to protect their congregation and respond effectively when it matters most.

Today, the program focuses on two core pathways:

3-Day Intensive Program
A concentrated training experience designed to equip safety teams with practical skills, situational awareness, and coordinated response strategies.

Year-Long Leadership & Preparedness Program
A comprehensive program that works alongside church leadership to build long-term preparedness, develop policies, train teams, and strengthen response capabilities.

Since launching the program, multiple houses of worship have completed Shamar Shield, reporting measurable improvements in:

• Preparedness and situational awareness

• Team coordination and communication
   
• The ability to remain calm and effective under stress
   

But Shamar Shield is about more than security.

It is about stewardship.
